Today was the first day of homeschooling! It went smoothly, and I am stoked for the upcoming year. My daughter, Anya, is just starting Kindergarten, and we are using God’s Creation from A to Z. I love the hands-on, Charlotte Mason inspired, Bible integration this curriculum has. Also, the fact that it has all the lessons already planned out for you is amazing!!
We started off our morning putting one straw in a cup to symbolize the first day of school (when we reach ten we will rubber band them up to teach about place value). Then, we wrote a number 1 on our 100 charts and once we get to the 100th day of school, we will do something fun together to celebrate, went over our daily calendar and wrote what day it was, the weather, date, and year. Then, we switched over to math and put the numbers 1-10 in order, learned about what God created on the first day, reviewed letters ABC & D, and ended with a Bible lesson from Answers Bible Curriculum.
It only took us an hour to complete the first day, and we ended up breaking it into two thirty minute chunks which seemed best for Anya. Liv sits and listens to the lessons with Anya, and Liam likes to run around and take everything off of the shelves. Since this was only the first day, I need to work on getting into a good grove of things and figure out what works for us. Looking forward to day two!
Have your children started school yet? If so, what curriculum are you using? What does a normal day look like for you?
